2 Construction Workers Hurt In Longfellow Bridge Accident

BOSTON (CBS) – Two construction workers were hurt in an accident on the Longfellow Bridge Monday afternoon.

Firefighters were called to the site around 1:30 p.m. to rescue the two workers from a shaft where the bridge towers usually sit.

WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Bernice Corpuz reports

The men were about 35-feet down receiving cement from above when the chutes used to move the cement gave way and fell on them.

A technical rescue team put the two men in specially designed baskets and then raised them up and out of the shaft.

They were taken to Massachusetts General Hospital with injuries that are described as "not life-threatening."

Their names have not been released.

No other details are available at this point in the investigation.
