2 Charged In Assault Of Disabled Woman

METHUEN (CBS) -- A Methuen man and Haverhill woman are facing charges in connection with the sexual assault of a woman with disabilities.

Massachusetts State Police charged John R. Leone Jr., 65, with three counts of rape and four counts of indecent assault and battery on a person with a disability. Nancy Barr, 54, was charged with assault and battery on a disabled person.

Police say Barr was a caretaker of a victim who allowed the assaults to be committed. Allegations of rape were reported to the Disabled Persons Protection Commission, police said.

Barr and Leone were arraigned Wednesday in Essex County and ordered held without bail until a Jan. 2 dangerousness hearing.

Police are not releasing additional details about the crime or the adult woman in order to protect her identity.
