Young Woman Killed In Mass. Pike Tractor-Trailer Crash

WARREN (CBS) -- One person is dead and another person was seriously injured in a crash involving a tractor-trailer and car on the Mass Pike on the Warren/Brimfield line.

State police responded to the crash shortly before 9a.m. on Monday.

According to police, the driver of a 2009 Honda Element was travelling eastbound when the vehicle crossed over to the westbound side and crashed into a tractor-trailer.

The impact caused the tractor-trailer to cross over the median into the eastbound lanes. The crash shut down both sides of the highway for nearly two hours and caused significant delays through the early afternoon.

The driver of the Honda, a 22-year-old woman from Taunton, was ejected from the car and died at the scene, according to State Police. The driver of the tractor-trailer, a 52-year-old woman from Warren, R.I., had to be pulled out of the truck and was medflighted to UMass Medical Center in Worcester.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
