16 Flu Deaths Reported In NH In January

NEW HAMPSHIRE (CBS) - Sixteen people died from the flu last month in the Granite State, officials say.

However, state epidemiologist Dr. Benjamin Chan says that "This is not at any sort of epidemic level."

"That is not out of the realm of ordinary, especially for the main circulating influenza H3N2 this season," Chan told WBZ.

Getting a flu shot is the best defense against contracting the influenza.

"While it may not be an exact match this season, it can still protect against other strains that we may see later in the season," Chan said.
