10-Year-Old Loses Part Of Hand Playing With Fireworks In Dorchester Home

BOSTON (CBS) --  A 10-year-old boy lost four fingers playing with fireworks in his Dorchester home, police said.

The boy was rushed to Children's Hospital from the second floor apartment on Talbot Ave. Saturday evening. 

Police say a parent was home at the time the incident occurred. Police say it's unlikely the boy's parents will face charges.

The Department of Children and Families says they are conducting their own investigation.

Boston Police Commissioner Bill Evans said the incident highlights the importance of firework safety.

"It wasn't a good sight for our officers to see," Evans said. "That's a tragedy and that's why fireworks, they're very dangerous in the hands of our young children."
