1 Killed In Roxbury Double Shooting

BOSTON (CBS) -- One man was killed in a late-night double shooting in Roxbury on the Fourth of July.

Two men in their 20s were shot just before 11 p.m. on Holborn Street, according to Boston police.

One of them survived, the other died at the scene. Police say the shots were fired from a car.

Extra patrols had been assigned to the city's neighborhoods over the holiday weekend.

"We're working hard," Boston Police Commissioner William Evans said. "I think the community has to help us here, get these guns of the street, because we've got too many young kids dying on the streets of the city."

Anyone with information is asked to call police.

Hoburn Street residents said at first they thought they were hearing fireworks.

"It's just terrible," one resident said. "They need to be reached out to - the young people who got the guns."

In an unrelated incident, Boston police said two people were also shot on Warren Street in Roxbury. Neither victim had life-threatening injuries.
