The family-friendly event featured three courses: a 10k, 5k and 1 Mile Family Fun Walk.

Proceeds from the running festival will benefit the Zaching Against Cancer Foundation, a local organization that provides support, strength, inspiration and positive influences to cancer patients and their support networks through scholarships, support services, research and outreach.

Last year, the Zaching Running Festival raised $20,000 and 420 runners participated. This year's registration numbers have almost doubled, meeting the Foundation's goal for number for participants, with more than 800.

Created in 2013 by former University of Maryland student Zachary Lederer and his parents, John and Chris Lederer, the foundation works to fulfill Zachary's mission of #livingthedream by inspiring and helping others in his memory.

Zachary Lederer fought brain cancer twice by the age of 18. During his fight, he created the viral sensation that would come to be known as "Zaching" by striking the strongman pose in a photo taken after his brain surgery. "Zaching" became known across the nation as a sign of strength, courage, determination and hope and was spread by friends, family, celebrities, cancer patients and athletes alike.
