Man Dies After Trench Rescue At Back River Treatment Plant

BALTIMORE COUNTY, Md. (WJZ) — A 36-year-old man is dead hours after he was pulled from a trench in Baltimore County.

Crews worked on rescuing Transito Rodriguez Cruz of Adelphi, Maryland from the confined space Monday afternoon in the 8200 block of Eastern Ave.

Cruz was digging a trench when he was struck by the bucket of the excavator, according to Baltimore County Fire Department.

Fire crews  extricated the victim from the 20-inch deep trench at the Back River Treatment Plant. He was transported with critical injuries to the John Hopkins Bayview Medical Center but succumbed from his injuries.

The incident remains under investigation by both the Baltimore Environmental Police and the Maryland Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
