Woman, Toddler Fatally Shot In Prince George's County

FORT WASHINGTON, Md. (WJZ) -- Prince George's County police are investigating a double fatal shooting that took the lives of a woman and a toddler Tuesday morning.

Officers responded to the 1300 block of Palmer Road in Fort Washing for a report of a shots fire and found a woman unresponsive and suffering from an apparent gunshot wound in a parking lot. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

They also found a toddler suffering from a gunshot wound in a nearby car. The toddler was taken to a local hospital but was also pronounced dead.

Due to it being an active investigation, police said they wouldn't release many details.

"This is a profoundly sad day. My prayers go out to the family," said interim police chief. "The notion that someone would be bold enough to take the life of a child and take the life of a young woman and think there would not be consequences is simply unacceptable in Prince George's County."
