Woman Sentenced To 3 Years For Embezzling $1.2 Million

GREENBELT, Md. (AP) -- A Maryland woman has been sentenced to more than 3 years in prison for embezzling $1.2 million from her employer.

Forty-five-year-old Janice McCumbie was also ordered to pay restitution at sentencing Monday in federal court in Greenbelt.

According to her plea agreement, McCumbie worked for an international consulting business that had offices in Maryland. Prosecutors say McCumbie, who was responsible for coordinating client refunds, wrote fraudulent refund checks to her co-conspirators. Authorities say the conspirators cashed the checks and shared the proceeds with McCumbie.
