Woman killed, 7 hurt when car, bus crash

PRESTON, Md. (AP) -- Maryland State Police say a woman was killed and seven people were hurt when a car and a bus crashed in Caroline County.

It happened about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday on Bethlehem Road in Preston. Troopers say 50-year-old Michaela Coulbourn of Preston was driving a car when the vehicle drifted across the center line.

Police say Coulbourn's car struck the rear driver's side of a bus operated by 68-year-old Rome Brittingham Jr. of Denton. Authorities say Brittingham was operating a state-owned bus taking people to an adult care facility.

Authorities say the bus was knocked onto its side.

Coulbourn was pronounced dead at the scene. Brittingham, his assistant and five other passengers were taken to Easton Memorial Hospital.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
