Woman In Ocean City Holding Cell Sets Underwear On Fire

OCEAN CITY, Md. (AP) -- Ocean City Police say a woman in a jail holding cell set fire to her panties and put them on a wall phone, causing the device to melt.

Police says a patrolman arrested 53-year-old Lisa Bergling Kerstetter of Bishopville about 9 p.m. Wednesday. Officers say Kerstetter was drunk and threw a bottle at a nail salon window. She was charged with endangering others by being intoxicated.

The Daily Times of Salisbury reports that Kerstetter was put in a holding cell, which has a phone. Police say Kerstetter took her panties off, draped them on the phone and used a cigarette lighter she had sneaked into the cell to light the garment.

The phone melted and the wall was scorched. No one was hurt.

Kerstetter was charged with arson.
