Woman Charged With Attempted Murder After Striking Officer With Vehicle

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A woman is facing attempted murder charges after striking a Baltimore police officer, not once, but twice with her vehicle.

The officer was first called to the 5300 block of Leith Road. Police say a BGE employee was involved in a dispute with 63-year-old Fredia Powell.

While investigating, authorities say Powell tried to drive away, dragging the two-year member of the department with her vehicle. The woman then deliberately struck the officer.

Police say Powell made a U-turn and attempted to run the officer over. He was thrown over the hood of the car.

The officer then discharged his weapon, missing Powell, who drove away.

The officer was treated for minor injuries and released.

Powell returned to the scene and was arrested a short time later.
