Woman Dead After Vehicle Plunges Off Second Floor Parking Structure

HOWARD COUNTY, Md. (WJZ)—A woman has died after the car in which she was driving plunges off a second floor parking structure in Howard County.

It happened just before 4:00 p.m. in the 5400 block Vantage Point Road.

According to police, the 83-year-old driver of a 2009 Hyundai Sonata was attempting to travel through an upper level parking structure when she collided with a retaining wall and fell off the upper level into the lower level parking lot.

The driver, identified at Barbara Schwartz, of Columbia, was transported to Howard County General Hospital where she was pronounced dead,

Police say a preliminary investigation has revealed that Schwartz, for an unknown reason at this time, accelerated through the upper level of the parking structure before striking the retaining wall.

The accident remains under investigation.
