Wire Down! Baltimore Co. Students Create Their Own BGE Commercial

TOWSON, Md. (WJZ) -- Students in Baltimore County create and star in their own commercial, and it's paid off.

Jessica Kartalija reports.

Thursday, they received a major award for their hard work, and all of Maryland will get a chance to see it.

Students fill their auditorium at Immaculate Conception School in Towson, thinking they're there for a lesson from BGE on fallen wires.

But these students are little superstars, creating a commercial for BGE's "Wire Down" campaign.

"This year, BGE is proud to announce you as the grand prize winner. Congratulations!" said Kenneth DeFontes, President and CEO of BGE.

Twenty-two elementary schools entered the competition.

"I knew that we were in the finals, but I didn't think that we would win because there were so many schools competing," said Ella Kane, student.

The school wins $10,000--money that will go toward improving their auditorium.

"The lighting needs to be updated, the curtain needs to be fixed. It's not going to cover everything, but it's a great, great launching pad," said Trish Collins, library media specialist.

You can see the commercial throughout this weekend on WJZ.

BGE awarded $30,000 in funding for school enrichment projects through the commercial competition.
