Winter Storm Damages Ocean City Fishing Pier

OCEAN CITY, Md. (AP) -- Ocean City's fishing pier has been damaged by the winter storm that passed through the region.

Bayshore Marine Construction recently rebuilt the pier after damage from Hurricane Sandy. Now the company  says strong waves and wind from this week's storm snapped seven pylons at the end of the pier.

The pier is still standing but remains closed. Most of the damaged pylons washed up on the beach.

Coast Guard officials say they have been receiving calls about damage since Thursday night.

Hurricane Sandy partially destroyed the pier in 2012. It was rebuilt and reopened in May. At the time, officials said the new pier is stronger and can withstand high wind speeds.
