Wind Restrictions For Bay Bridge

SANDY POINT, Md. (AP) -- Maryland officials are restricting traffic on several bridges, including the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, as winds pick up in the wake of a snowstorm.

The Maryland Transportation Authority says there is a wind restriction in place on the bridge Friday morning because of sustained winds or gusts exceeding 50 mph. That means only cars, pickup trucks, flatbed trailers, commercial buses and heavy-laden tractor trailers may cross. Tractor-box trailer combinations can't cross if the gross weight is less than 64,000 pounds.

There are also wind warnings in place on the Nice, Key and Hatem bridges because of sustained winds or gusts of 30 mph to 39 mph. Motorists operating house trailers, box trailers, motorcycles and vehicles with roof-mount racks are warned to use caution while crossing.
