Wieters To Have Sore Elbow Examined

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) -- Baltimore Orioles catcher Matt Wieters will have his sore right elbow examined Wednesday by Dr. James Andrews.

The Orioles announced the news after Wieters went 2 for 5 as the designated hitter in Tuesday night's 5-3 win over Tampa Bay.

Baltimore manager Buck Showalter said Wieters will fly to Pensacola, Fla. from the Tampa area Wednesday for the exam and will rejoin the team for the game Wednesday night with the Rays.

"He's been getting it treated for a while," Showalter said. "We just want to make sure we know what we're dealing with. He'll be back for the game. We got an MRI (on Monday) and we just want to follow up. Hopefully he's catching for us (Wednesday)."
