Where's Marty? With a local 3D scanning company that worked for the Super Bowl

Hi Everyone!

Today was part 2 at Direct Dimensions.

Where's Marty? Learning more about the high-profile work of Direct Dimensions

This was the first time we have done a two-part "WM?" and so totally spot on in our thinking to do so.

Yesterday was about their work on movies in general with emphasis on their connection to the Marvel franchise.

Today was about Direct Dimensions' work with CBS and how they scanned Allegiant Stadium in Vegas, and 12 New York Jet players, for the Nickelodeon Network broadcast of the Super Bowl.

In September of 2023, work began on this project. At that time, the Jets were being filmed for the TV Show "Hard Knocks," so the NFL had Direct Dimensions use them, as a film crew was already on site and the 3D scanning for the Nickelodeon project would be less intrusive.

It's very cool stuff, but the showstopper we were shown in their conference room was the 3D scans "DD" did of the Washington Monument.

Pete Kennedy, 19 years with Direct Dimensions, did the scan.

He said it was amazing to stand face to face with an 18-foot-tall statue of POTUS 1, but that it was shocking how front on, he does not look at all like George Washington.

But from the low angle, we see the statue from it was designed to look like him. The face from the eyes up was just, "let's get this done."

Direct Dimensions did this gratis for the community so that if anything ever happened to this historic landmark there would be digital data of it. A perfect duplicate could be made.

And they created small 3D printed models, gratis, that were put into the time capsule before it was resealed to be opened in another hundred years. It says a lot about them.

We hope you enjoyed the two parts from Owings Mills as much as we did bringing this story to you. Great hosts to say the least.

As I wrote in yesterday's blog, here is the website for "DD" so you can learn more about this "gem in our own backyard." https://dirdim.com/
