Tractor-Trailer Crashes, Overturns On Chesapeake Bay Bridge

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- A tractor-trailer has crashed with another vehicle and overturned on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, closing the westbound lanes.

Maryland Transportation Authority Police spokesman Sgt. Jonathan Green says one person was injured in the crash Saturday about 2:45 p.m. He says the injuries are considered non-life threatening.

The truck was carrying wooden pallets. Green says nothing hazardous spilled during the crash, and nothing fell off the bridge.

Crews were using a tow truck to clear the tractor-trailer, and the bridge span remained closed into the evening.

Westbound traffic was being detoured at the last exit prior to the bridge on the Eastern Shore.

Police were setting up two-way traffic on the eastbound span. Green said it would take some time to remove the truck and crash debris from the bridge span.

Both Eastbound and westbound traffic was reopened late Saturday night.
