WEATHER BLOG: Rain Coming

A coastal area of low presure will be bringing showers to the region as early as this afternoon & evening and lasting through tomorrow. Likely rain totals from late tonight into late tomorrow night will be less than 0.25", with even lower totals in northwestern viewing areas. Meanwhile, southeast of the city, rain totals near the New Jersey coast and across the Delmarva will be much higher. A few model solutions are suggesting that as much as 2-4" may fall in some of those areas. Regardlesss, there is a very tight gradient between where little precip and a substatial amount of rainfall will occur. Sunshine and drier conditions will return on Wednesday as the low heads out to sea and a wedge of drier air envelopes the interior East ahead of a potent cold front. Although no rain is forecast on Wednesday, the air will feel a tad sticky. On Thursday, this cold front will move from the Ohio Valley to the Appalachians by evening and eventually pass our region late Thursday into Friday. Thunderstorms will be possible Thursday out ahead of this front.
