WEATHER BLOG: Mild Monday

Sunday was the warmest day since Oct. 6 of last year. Latest surface analysis shows a deep area of low pressure not too far from Chicago with a cold front trailing the low to the south-southwest.

A warm front is laying across central New England with upper 50s across central Massachusetts and 30s across central New Hampshire and southern Maine. It will be warm and breezy once again Monday, but with thicker high clouds compared to Sunday. The clouds should help to knock a few degrees off of Sunday's maximums.

There is an upper disturbance currently over the mid-Mississippi Valley that will move northeastward through Monday. This will help bring some rain and thunderstorms into western portions of New York State and Pennsylvania Monday afternoon. They may get as far east as the central portions of both states by late afternoon. There can be showers and a thunderstorm around during the overnight hours.

We will likely see an increase in the rain coverage during the morning drive time Tuesday. It will rain a majority of the time on Tuesday, with perhaps 1 or 2 brief breaks. Given the amount of available moisture, there can be some downpours. Rainfall amounts can certainly exceed an inch by the time the rain ends Tuesday evening, and our current thinking is amounts will range from 1-1.5 inches. The heaviest rain will fall between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. The cold front will move through during the mid- to late afternoon hours and temperatures will begin to fall once it passes. Temperatures will go from the 60s in the afternoon to the upper 30s by midnight.
