WEATHER BLOG: Last Mild Day

We will start Sunday with some sun, then clouds will thicken toward the afternoon. The large area of low pressure at the surface will continue to weaken Sunday. Therefore, the pressure gradient across our region will be weaker and promote much lighter winds. It will be another mild day Sunday and temperatures will not be too far off from Saturday, albeit just slightly lower.

A shortwave currently in the central U.S. will move into the upper Ohio Valley. This feature will spread showers into the Appalachians in the afternoon. Rain will likely hold off until the evening in the Baltimore area. Areas of light rain could develop.

It will take time for the lower levels to cool enough to allow for rain to change to snow. At this point, we think the change to snow will happen sometime between 10 p.m. and midnight. This will occur during the latter portion of this event and not give a lot of time for snow to accumulate on paved surfaces. Some non-paved surfaces west and north of Baltimore could see a coating to an inch of snow. With temperatures falling to around freezing overnight, there can be some slick spots that develop, especially outside of the city.
