WEATHER BLOG: Cooler Weather Coming
Latest surface analysis shows low pressure just east of Detroit with a cold front extending southwestward into western Texas. High pressure is wedged southwestward from southern New England to the mid-Atlantic. This is promoting an easterly low level flow across our area. Low clouds and areas of dense fog can be expected for a time this morning. However, the aforementioned area of low pressure east of DET will move northeastward today and high pressure off New England will weaken. This will allow winds to become southerly, mix out the inversion, low clouds and fog. With the southerly winds will come a surge of much warmer air and numerous record highs will be tied or broken across the Northeast and mid-Atlantic. We will not be in this warm airmass for long. By early Sunday afternoon, a cold front will be situated from just west of Boston to Pittsburgh and into northern Kentucky. This front will move quickly east and southeast and through our area this evening. This front will also bring a few showers along as it moves through. The best chance for showers is between 8pm and midnight. People out and about this evening should have an umbrella handy. When folks wake up Monday morning it will feel much cooler and there will be a considerable amount of clouds overhead. There could be some peeks of sun in the morning but the primary sky cover for Monday will be cloudy. Temperatures will not rise much during the day Monday from the morning lows and it will be 20 to 25 degrees lower Monday
afternoon compared to Sunday afternoon.
Meanwhile, a powerful storm system will move in the Midwest on Monday and moist air aloft will move over the top of the cool, dry air in the lower levels. Because the air below will be dry there will be some evaporation taking place. For a while late in the day Monday, precipitation will have a hard time reaching the ground. But, it will be raining over most of the viewing area by early evening. Rain will linger in and around Baltimore through mid-afternoon Tuesday with dry weather to follow at night.
