WEATHER BLOG: Seasonably Mild
A highly amplified ridge stationed over the West Coast with a relatively confluent flow east of the Canadian Rockies is ushering in much cooler temperatures into the region with a couple clipper systems reinforcing the colder air in the coming days. The main story will be the wind potential with a tight baroclinic zone and conducive pressure gradient as a strong clipper system dives into the region. The best potential for stronger wind looks to be hug the Mason-Dixon line. On Saturday, a weak low pressure system will lift northeastward along the slow moving cold front positioned just off the coast. This will allow some showers to get into the area this morning. The warmest temperatures will be early this morning with cold air advection and a clipper system pushing through this afternoon. There could be a shower, but it's unlikely as much of the better moisture is further north.
Saturday night, the next clipper will move in from the west with intensifying wind as the night progresses. Winds could be damaging, with gusts to 50 mph tonight in some localized areas. Expect a shower as well towards dawn as the low approaches.
Strong wind will continue into Sunday morning but then gradually diminish during the afternoon hours. Much cooler air will filter in for Sunday night.
By Monday, yet another, stronger clipper will dive south, but this time the track will be a bit further north, placing us in the warm sector. Expect periods of rain with this system with a brief snow shower on the back side of the cold front.
Monday night will be quite chilly.
For Tuesday, high pressure will settle in with continued chilly conditions.
A return flow will allow milder air to move in on Wednesday. Periods of rain and perhaps a rumble of thunder will move in during the morning hours on Thursday. The cold front will then usher in colder air for Friday.
