WEATHER BLOG: Cold, But Not As Harsh Sunday

After a brief respite from the frigid air on Friday, the cold returned in full force today with temperatures approximately 15 degrees or so below average for this time of year. Another frigid air is on the way tonight with lows bottoming out in the single digits to low teens across central Maryalnd. The cold will relax somewhat on Sunday as a light southerly flow develops thanks to high pressure drifting east. Highs will make it into the mid/upper 30s with some spots nearing 40 degrees. Expect increasing clouds throughout the day out ahead of our next precipitation maker. This storm system will bring the threat of freezing rain and perhaps some sleet to the region. I think the primary threat will be freezing rain for Baltimore and the surrounding areas. This doesn't look like a major icing event, but it will certainly be a nuisance for Monday's morning commute.
