WEATHER BLOG: Cloudy, Rain This PM
The sky is partly to mostly cloudy early today.
Although high pressure is providing the Northeast and most of the mid-Atlantic region with very dry air, the high clouds we were talking about yesterday are starting to streak in from the south and west.
That being said, there'll probably be several places that get some 'early glimpses of sunshine' today.
But, these will inevitably fade behind thickening clouds as the morning/early afternoon hours wear on.
The tendency for moisture to 'overrun' the dry surface is one of the reasons why rain should be very LIGHT when it begins across most of eastern Pennsylvania, as well as in central Maryland and Delaware between 2 and 4 p.m. -- farther north and east, including northern New Jersey and southeastern New York, that start time will be between 4 and 7 p.m.
This coincides with the p.m. rush, and that may be something very important to remember later today.
With temperatures shortly after midnight having been in the 20-24 degree range in places like Sussex, New Jersey, in the Poconos, the southern Catskills and in Orange County, New York, it is conceivable (even if it starts 15 or 16 hours later) that the rain could freeze on some surfaces for a while. Bridges and highway overpasses are the most likely candidates.
