WEATHER BLOG: Clear Skies

High pressure will hold on for the day on Saturday with mainly dry weather across the region. It will be a chilly morning with clear skies this morning. Temps will surge back up later this afternoon with bright sunshine. For tonight, high pressure will continue to hold on with temperatures once again dropping down, but most likely won't be as cool with higher clouds moving in.

For Sunday, continued dry weather is expected with warmer temperatures and ridging ahead of the next system pushing in from the west. By Sunday night, a shower will push into the area very late with the next system. Periods of rain will then be expected on Monday morning as the cold front slides through. The warmest temperatures will be during the morning hours with temperatures cooling down throughout the day. Monday night will be a chilly night with a northwest flow and clearing skies.

By Tuesday, high pressure will be in control with mainly sunny skies. Temperatures will remain chilly with a continued northwesterly flow.

By Wednesday, the digging longwave trough in the western U.S. with advect higher heights into the region. This will spell warmer weather with a return flow and generally sunny skies. Temps may be warmer if a more southwesterly flow develops. Right now, it looks like there could be an onshore flow which would keep it a bit cooler.

For Thursday, this will be the warmest day with a cold front approaching from the west. Rain and a thunderstorm will develop during the evening/late evening hours. GFS is significantly faster with the front, but considering the overall developing unidirectional pattern along the east coast and the fact that it is the GFS, the Euro is probably the safest bet right now.

The pattern by Friday becomes generally unidirectional with the front slowing down. Another disturbance may ride up this quasi-stationary front and bring more rain to the region.

Beyond this, long-range models continue to indicate an extremely amplified ridge developing in the west which will open the gates for cold air to scream southward in the east by the later weekend into early next week. Still a ways to go, so we shall see what happens.
