WEATHER BLOG: A New Record Low

Hi, everyone!

Is it cold enough for ya? There's a new record low for the date! Just after 6 a.m., we dropped to 4 degrees--SMASHING the old record of 5 that goes all the way back to 1873.

Some readings in the area were closer to 0 degrees, though. ZERO!!!!! But remember it is the BWI-Thurgood Marshall Airport number that goes into the books.

Looks like a warmup is headed our way for the week's end and weekend. Our normals are now 50/30! By the weekend we will be right around 50.

Monday we began discussing a coastal low forming Thursday night and maybe forcing some more winter on us. Indeed, according to the American and European models, that low will form. But right now there is a big blocking high governing our weather. That high should block the low from moving up the coast. Time will tell but the forecast is trending in our favor. That low, though, could delay the weekend warmup I just mentioned. Again, time will tell.

I will close with words my friend Neci, the legendary rock jock at WHFS, used to end her "ion air" Facebook posts: "Stay fierce!" In this weather there is no other way!
