VIDEO: Water Main Break Sends Water Nearly 100 Feet In The Air

OWINGS MILLS, Md. (WJZ) -- A water main break in Owings Mills sends water shooting out of the ground, higher than the trees nearby. Crews are still at the scene working to try and get things back to normal.

Sky Eye Chopper 13 was above the scene in Owings Mills, on Montrose Ave., near Reisterstown Road. Crews are working to make repairs. Many neighbors were startled when they saw water shooting into the sky.

Water was shooting out of the ground like a geyser, spewing out from an Owings Mills water main break from an 18-inch pipe below.

"It started off really small. It was only going that high off the ground and about 15 minutes later it turned in to that," says neighbor Victoria Lubousky, pointing at the water shooting out of the ground.

"I'm just worried about a lot of things. I don't know how long we're going to be having no water, how it affects us," says neighbor Kim Frazier.

"We were sitting and somebody was talking to me, they could see it out my bedroom window. As soon as we saw it, I called. It was like 10:50 [a.m.]" she says.

Area residents waited in fear for what could happen for more than an hour before crews arrived.

"Looks like it's slowing down now. Turning them up though," says Lubousky.

While the neighbors one side of the street say they never lost water coming into their homes, one woman did notice a change in color.

"The water is running brown. It hasn't affected us. It just started on this side of the street, then we noticed it was starting to spread more," says Frazier.

While the spewing has ended, now the repairs begin.

It looks like part of the repair is actually done, they filled up the hole. Still working to fix up a few things here. A lot of people in the area tell WJZ when it rains heavily, they get a lot of flooding so that was really one of the big concerns from a lot of people around here but they say they'll continue to watch out for things and hopefully they don't have what happened earlier today happen again.

Up to 30 homes were affected during the water main break repairs.
