COVID Latest: Baltimore Expands Eligibility, Launches Community Clinic Locations To Vaccinate Underserved Areas

TIMONIUM, Md. (WJZ) -- Baltimore County officials announced Wednesday they will open community clinic locations to help underserved areas find the coronavirus vaccine.

This comes after Gov. Larry Hogan announced that the Timonium Fairgrounds will transition into a state mass vaccination site the week of April 5. With this new site, there are now five locations across the county to get vaccinated.

Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski Jr. said they will hold their first community clinic at the Sollers Point Multi-Purpose Center in Turner Station later this week. Starting next week, they will operate another community clinic at Sisters Academy in Lansdowne.

"We anticipate operating both of these sites on a weekly basis," Olszewski said Wednesday.

He said they were chosen using data to find underserved areas. They will be smaller than normal clinics, set to target the communities where they're located. The hope is to serve 300 to 500 people per clinic.

Olszewski said as more vaccine supply comes in, they will work to find other locations for these clinics.

"As you can see behind me, Baltimore County remains ready to put more shots into the arms of our residents as soon as we get more doses. That's why we were thrilled, absolutely thrilled yesterday, to learn that the state will be increasing Baltimore County's vaccine allotment from a weekly 4,900 doses to 6,300 doses," Olszewski said during a press conference Wednesday.
