Washington County to Take Ownership of Ft Ritchie

SABILLASVILLE, Md. (AP) - Washington County officials are expecting to formally assume ownership of the old Fort Ritchie property this week as part of a two-decade effort to redevelop the former Army base.

The Herald-Mail reports that county administrators have already assumed effective ownership of the property, but plan on Tuesday to sign the documents to make it official.

In July, county officials announced a new redevelopment plan, a mixed-use development called Cascade Town Center. Fort Ritchie closed in 1998.
