Wet weather arrives just as the weekend kicks off in Maryland

Warmer and wet Friday in Maryland

Partly cloudy and cool tonight - A few showers Friday but a steadier rain will linger through first half of the Weekend. Saturday is a First Alert Weather Day - a heads up that much needed rain will keep us cool and damp for the first half of the weekend.

Temperatures cooling from the 40s into the 30s overnight. It'll be a chilly, but fine evening for plans. Any rain showers that manage to develop will remain well west of our area through mid-evening.

Wet weather becomes widespread late Friday, Saturday

The forecast remains mostly dry through Friday morning. A few spotty rain showers are possible late Thursday, into early Friday... especially in western Maryland.

The chance of rain increases from southwest, to northeast, Friday evening with likely scattered rain for Friday evening.

A First Alert Weather Day is in-place on Saturday, as an extra heads up that your plans may be impacted by steady rain through most of the day, tapering off by late afternoon.

Rain becomes widespread and steady Friday night. A steady rain Saturday morning gives will transition to scattered showers by the afternoon. Rainfall totals could range from .5" for most locations and up to an inch is possible in isolated areas with heavier downpours. This rain is desperately needed and will help wash away remaining salt treatments still lingering from last month's early season winter weather on roadways and sidewalks.

Winter cold blows into Maryland on Sunday

The second-half of the weekend will feature the return of winter temperatures. We'll peak in the low to mid-40s by the afternoon with winds gusting to 30 to 40 MPH, under a mix of sun and clouds. Factoring in the stronger winds the feels like temperatures will be in the 20s in some locations by Sunday evening. Winds could gust up to 50 MPH in higher elevations. Mountain snow showers are likely in Garrett County Sunday afternoon through next Monday morning.

The weather pattern favors more cold and possibly wintry weather as we head deeper into January.
