Maryland Weather: Sunny and hot, bracing for warmer temperatures

Marty Bass has your Wednesday afternoon forecast

BALTIMORE --- The heat wave is rolling on today as Marylanders brace for an Alert Day on Thursday.

Temperature highs today will be around 94 degrees.

With humidity on the rise, that temperature will likely feel very close to 100 degrees.

The sky will be bright and quiet but that will change on Thursday.

The WJZ weather team has issued an Alert Day because of the combination of intense heat, humidity, and potential storms.

Code Orange declared in Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Harford, Cecil and Anne Arundel County

Temperatures in the mid to upper 90s along with high humidity mean it will feel above 100 degrees for a good portion of the afternoon.

The Eastern Shore could see temperatures anywhere from 104 degrees all the way up to 108 degrees.

There's also a chance for storms on Thursday morning and then again in the afternoon.

They don't look too impressive so far but places south of Annapolis could see an isolated severe storm.

On Friday, the high temperatures will continue, remaining in the mid-90s.

The scorching temperatures will remain throughout the weekend. Marylanders can expect to see temperatures in the upper 90s on Saturday and Sunday.

Both Thursday and Sunday are projected to have the highest amount of humidity and heat combined.

That's why the WJZ weather team is flagging Sunday as an Alert Day. On Sunday, the heat index could jump to anywhere from 100 to 110 degrees.

On Monday, a cold front will move into the area and bring along with it a thunderstorm threat.

Cooler temperatures will surface on Tuesday.

It is unclear at this point if the cold front has the capacity to generate severe weather.
