5 Employees At Wabash Courthouse Test Positive For COVID-19; Union Officials Call For Additional Safety Precautions

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Five employees at Baltimore City's Wabash Courthouse have tested positive for COVID-19.

Now, union officials are calling for a 72-hour closure of the building and a slew of other safety precautions, including moving all non-criminal matters to remote hearings and allowing employees to open windows to improve airflow.

In a statement to WJZ, the Maryland Judiciary said they're making health a top priority.

CORONAVIRUS COVERAGE:

They're taking additional precautions like providing hand sanitizer, practicing social distancing and installing glass barriers in courtrooms.

"There are five confirmed COVID-19 diagnoses at the Baltimore City District Court's Wabash Avenue location. All five employees have been quarantined, all courthouse employees and judges have been notified, and contact tracing regarding anyone who had prolonged contact has occurred," the judiciary said in a statement.
