Multiple vehicles involved in crash on icy road in Carroll County, state police says

Wintry weather creates treacherous road conditions across Maryland

Multiple vehicles were involved in a crash on an icy portion of Maryland 140 in Carroll County as winter weather moved across the state on Friday, according to the Maryland State Police.

The crash happened at Englar Road and MD-140 in Westminster. Four people were taken to the hospital.

A slick wintry mix of freezing rain and sleet will continue to fall across parts of Maryland through the evening.

This will lead to the potential for slippery travel conditions on untreated roadways, especially along and north of I-70, including parts of the Baltimore metro.

According to WJZ's First Alert Weather Team, the chance of a glaze of ice forming on untreated surfaces is greatest across northern areas of Carroll, Baltimore, Harford, and Cecil counties.

The wintry weather will move out early Saturday morning.

Weather disrupts travel at BWI Airport

The weather also caused havoc for travelers at BWI.

More than 150 flights were delayed, and nearly 100 flights were canceled.

"We tried to head out to the Ravens game tomorrow, but the flight got cancelled," said traveler Zack Feltz.

Travelers spent a lot of time in the airport waiting for their flights, or even for their luggage.

"We've been waiting for an hour and a half for our luggage to come," traveler Randi Burgey said.

Burgey said she was already on the plane when her connecting flight was canceled.

"I tried to get off the plane to go see a ticket agent because we were one of the first people on the plane, but they wouldn't let me off the plane," Burgey said. "They said you have to do it when you get to Baltimore."

Burgey says she is stuck in Baltimore until Monday. She said that this holiday travel experience has been anything but smooth.

"Ask me if I'll do it again, never ever," Burgey said.
