Valentine's Deliveries Helped By Low Gas Prices

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- It may be a gift of love for drivers: record low gas prices---and delivery businesses are saving green because of it.

Gigi Barnett explains why.

Designers at their stations and delivery drivers on the move. Valentine's Day is a big money maker at Raimondi's Florist in Randallstown.

"If you talk about a day or a single two days, yes, Valentine's is the busiest," said Paul Raimondi.

But the big money saver is this: the low gas prices. With the deep savings, the business is able to expand service and its coverage area.

"I hope it keeps up. I hope it doesn't reverse," he said.

"The savings can translate from hundreds to even thousands of dollars a month, depending on the size of their fleets," said Christine Delise, AAA.

Delise says from this same time last year, Maryland drivers are paying nearly 50% less for a gallon of regular gas. So why are drivers seeing so much love at the pump?

"Crude oil is going down because we have an over-abundance of supply," Delise said.

As more deliveries go out the door at Raimondi's, they're delivering red and keeping the green.

"We're bringing so many smiles and bringing romance to couples," he said.

AAA says prices could slowly rise in the spring because oil refineries usually go offline and cause a drop in supply. They say the boost in prices may not be as significant as they were last year.
