VA Planning To Open Clinic In Montgomery County

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Maryland elected officials say the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is considering opening an outpatient clinic in Montgomery County.

U.S. senators Barbara Mikulski and Ben Cardin announced the news Tuesday, along with fellow Democrats Rep. Chris Van Hollen and Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett. They say the VA has begun searching for space to lease in the Rockville-Gaithersburg area.

The announcement follows an outcry by elected officials in July over the planned closure of a VA outpatient clinic in Greenbelt in neighboring Prince George's County

The VA health care system in Maryland includes 11 other outpatient clinics, hospitals in Baltimore and Perry Point, and the Loch Raven VA Community Living and Rehabilitation Center in Baltimore.
