UVa Dean Lawyers Seek Rolling Stone Subject's Messages

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Lawyers for a University of Virginia dean say the subject of a debunked Rolling Stone article about a rape on campus should have to reveal text messages and other communications in a case because there's no evidence the alleged sexual assault occurred.

The Richmond Times Dispatch reports that lawyers for Associate Dean Nicole Eramo said in recent court filings that the woman who's referred to only as "Jackie" in the article is a "serial liar who invented people, events and text messages."

Jackie's lawyers say she shouldn't have to hand over that information because she's not a party to the lawsuit. They say because she's entitled to legal protections as a victim of an alleged sexual assault.

Eramo is seeking more than $7.5 million from Rolling Stone.
