Frostburg President Says Fire Victim Was Student

FROSTBURG, Md. (AP) -- The president of Frostburg State University says a man who died in a fire at a Frostburg home was a student.

Frostburg State president Jonathan Gibralter said in a letter to the university community that the victim of Friday morning's fire has been tentatively identified as Lateef Gazal, a native of Bowie. Gibralter cautioned that the state medical examiner will officially identify the victim.

Gazal was a business administration major and a member of Delta Sigma Pi, the professional business fraternity.

Gibralter wrote that the university community offers its deepest condolences to Gazal's family and friends.

Two other occupants of the rented home escaped the fire with minor injuries, and another wasn't home at the time. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
