UNC-Wilmington Upsets Towson 66-53

WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) -- Dylan Sherwood and Chris Dixon both scored 14 points as UNC-Wilmington upset Towson 66-53 on Monday.

UNC-Wilmington (7-19, 1-10 Colonial Athletic Conference) won its first in conference play by shooting 41 percent and 7 of 18 from beyond the arc. Freddie Jackson added 11 points.

Jerrelle Benimon led Towson (16-9, 7-3) with 17 points and 16 rebounds. The Tigers shot just 35 percent from the floor, made only 12 of 20 free throws and were a woeful 3 of 20 (15 percent) on 3-pointers. Marcus Damas added 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Wilmington went up seven with 7:52 left in the first half after an Addison Spruill 3-pointer made it 21-14. Neither team mustered much offense, though, as UNCW's 30-25 halftime advantage would indicate.

The Seahawks opened the second half on a 14-6 run as Towson went 3 of 10 over the first 5 1/2 minutes with four turnovers.
