2 Anne Arundel County Police Officers Injured During A Pursuit In Severna Park

SEVERNA PARK, Md. (WJZ)-- Two Anne Arundel County police officers were injured Saturday morning during a pursuit in the 8000 block of Ritchie Highway.

The incident began around 7:15 a.m. when officers responded to a residence in the area for an unknown vehicle parked in a resident's driveway.

When officers approached the car they found a driver and a passenger who were asleep in the car.

While attempting to wake up the suspects they spotted a handgun inside of the car.

The two suspects then drove off and a pursuit was initiated.

Multiple officers along with Maryland State Police responded to the area of Ritchie Highway and Robinson Road to assist.

The suspect vehicle briefly stopped at the location and officers attempted to de-escalate and reason with the driver, but the suspect again took off injuring two officers in the process.

The suspect vehicle became inoperable a short distance later and the two suspects ran, but were quickly apprehended by responding police officers.

Police said a firearm was thrown from the vehicle during the pursuit and has since been recovered.

The two officers suffered minor non-life threatening injuries during the incident and were transported to an area hospital.   One of the officers has been treated and released.

The incident remains under investigation.
