BALTIMORE - Two men convicted in the murder of beloved Catonsville Y coach Jordan Taylor will spend decades in prison.

Aaron Butler was sentenced on Thursday to life in prison, suspending all but 35 years. He will then have to serve five years of supervised probation.

Butler pled guilty in April to First-Degree Murder, Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Crime of Violence, Attempted Armed Robbery and Conspiracy to Commit Burglary.

Kahlil Madden was sentenced to 40 years in prison. He was found guilty in April of two counts of Conspiracy to Commit Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon and Conspiracy to Commit Burglary.

In court, prosecutors revealed Madden is also facing charges for allegedly murdering a fellow inmate in August of 2021 while in jail for Taylor's murder.

Four people were arrested, but one of the suspects died before trial and charges were dropped against the fourth suspect due to a lack of evidence.

Taylor was killed on November 5, 2019, while trying to protect his wife during a home invasion on Clifton Avenue.

On the night of the home invasion, prosecutors said the suspects tried to break into Taylor's home with a crowbar.

Prosecutors said Taylor blocked the door with his body to keep them out, but the suspects shot through it, hitting Taylor several times.

"Everyone should feel safe in their own home. The horrific actions of these defendants that took Mr. Taylor's life and surely traumatized his wife are absolutely devastating to imagine," said State's Attorney Ivan Bates. "No sentence could compensate for the tragic loss of this valued community leader and dedicated family man. But I hope today's outcome begins the healing process for everyone who knows the Taylor family. I sincerely thank our local and federal partners in law enforcement who were essential in ensuring justice was delivered in this case."

Taylor's parents and loved ones gave victim impact statements in court.

"I will carry this pain forever," said Julie Taylor, Jordan's mother. "The gaping hole in my heart will never be filled."

Madden declined to speak in court, but Butler did, apologizing to the family.

"I wish I had the power to go back in time and change what happened," Butler said.
