Two Arrested After Gun Fired In Baltimore Elementary School

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A Baltimore City Public Schools official says two people have been arrested after a gun was fired in a Baltimore elementary school Wednesday morning.

Two students reportedly brought guns to Maree Garnett Farring Elementary School, and discharged one of them in a bathroom.

No injuries were reported, and "the guns were not used to threaten anyone," according to the school district.

School staff heard the gunshot and went into the bathroom, where they found a shell casing.

The school was then placed on lockdown as a precaution.

Two arrests have been made and the guns were recovered by police.

The district released a statement about the guns found at the school:

"At City Schools, safety is our top priority, and we work daily to provide a positive environment for teaching and learning. Staff and students experiencing anxiety as a result of today's incident will receive support from the school-based team and mental health professionals for as long as necessary."

No further details have been released at this time.
