Truck Carrying Radioactive Cleanup Suits Overturns

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- Authorities say Interstate 81 in western Maryland has reopened after a tractor trailer carrying radioactive cleaning suits overturned.

Maryland State Police said in a news release that truck carrying two sealed shipping containers that held the suits overturned Wednesday evening on southbound I-81. It reopened late Wednesday after a four-hour cleanup.

Troopers say the suits were being hauled from the Three Mile Island Nuclear Generating Station in central Pennsylvania to Tennessee for disposal. Police say hazardous materials crews considered the cargo safe and the truck was moved to a safe storage lot, where it was inspected.

Police blame distracted driving and say the driver was cited.
