3 Delaware Teens Shot In Elkton Area Overnight After Reports That Group Was Stealing From Vehicles, Cecil County Sheriff's Office Says

ELKTON, Md. (WJZ) -- Three teenagers from Wilmington, Delaware suffered non-life-threatening injuries in a shooting overnight north of Elkton, the Cecil County Sheriff's Office said Thursday.

The sheriff's office said they got multiple calls about a group stealing from vehicles near the Persimmon Creek and West Creek Village Apartments areas around 3 a.m. As they responded to the scene, calls came in about shots fired in the area.

Deputies got to the 900 block of Elk Mills Road to find seven people, including six minors, in a vehicle that had been reported stolen in New Jersey. Two girls, ages 15 and 14, suffered gunshot wounds to the face and leg. A bullet also struck the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle, 18-year-old Josiah Brown of Wilmington, Delaware, was arrested on an outstanding theft warrant from Kennett Square, Pennsylvania.

Deputies then learned a third gunshot victim was at the Cherry Hill Plaza on Beauchamp Road. The 15-year-old boy, who was also in a vehicle stolen from New Jersey, had been shot in the arm. Other people who were inside the car fled before deputies arrived.

The sheriff's office said the teens in both vehicles went to the area together when they were fired at by someone in another vehicle.

Officials are still searching for the shooter. Anyone with information in the case should call police at 410-392-2124.
