Triple Amputee Veteran Is 2016 'Faces Of Valor' Honoree

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- He was critically wounded seven years ago fighting in Afghanistan, but on Sunday, he'll be honored in Annapolis.

Its's all thanks to an Anne Arundel County couple who founded an organization that helps our wounded warriors, WJZ's Ron Matz reports.

Cpl. Adam Keys has undergone 130 surgeries after a roadside bomb left him with a brain injury and three missing limbs. There were five men in the vehicle, including Keys's best friend, Spc. Jesse Reed. Keys was the only survivor.

The owners of Chick and Ruth's Delly in Annapolis, Ted and Beth Levitt, founded Faces of Valor USA, eight years ago to provide scholarships and other kinds of financial assistance to those injured in line of duty -- whether military, fire, police or EMS services.

Keys is the organization's 2016 honoree, and Sunday is the Faces of Valor 8th annual family fundraiser, which includes a motorcycle ride from Annapolis to Edgewater, a classic car show a 5k run/walk and a family picnic.

"Our idea eight years ago was to raise a few thousand bucks and to be able to do something for them," Beth Levitt tells WJZ. "And now we're raising over $100,000 a year."

"Every year it gets better and better and bigger and bigger, more people come out," Ted Levitt says.

"It's just a great event and the men and women we honor are so humbled by it... Beth and I just decided that we wanted to do more than just the pledge to the flag that we do every more at Chick and Ruth's. We see that people need a lot of help and we're fortunate we're able to do it."
