Trey Mancini's Home Run Was Extra Special For His Family

Trey Mancini, on his second at bat during his debut in the major leagues, sent a home run soaring out of the park.

Mancini joined Norris and Long this morning to talk about the Orioles playoff push, his first day at the clubhouse and of course, his first major league home run.

Mancini said, "One thing that ran through my mind was my family. My mom was at the game, and I was just thinking about them and all they've sacrificed for me my whole life because of baseball. Being able to pay them back in that small way, and that moment can never be taken away. It was really neat."

Trey would visit Baltimore for a week every summer when he was younger. His late grandfather had season tickets to the Orioles. On Tuesday night, when he hit his first home run, it just so happened to be his grandfather's birthday.

Mancini says the Orioles do a great job preparing players for the big leagues, but could anything prepare him for a playoff push? He says, "After the home run that night, it definitely sunk it. We are in a play off race, and at this point every game is a play off game, and we've all got to come out and be ready to fight."

In 2015, Mancini earned the Brooks Robinson Award as the Orioles Minor League Player of the Year and led all of Minor League Baseball with 182 hits and ranked among MiLB leaders in total bases.
