Teen Hit By Train In Laurel Suffers Critical Injuries, Police Say

LAUREL, Md. (WJZ) — A teenager was injured after being hit by a MARC train in Laurel Monday evening, Prince George's County Police said.

The crash happened around 5 p.m. in the 8600 block of Cherry Lane not far from the Laurel train station. Police said a group of teens were on the tracks at the time just before the crash.

"Unfortunately, one of the teens was unable to fully cross the tracks and was struck by the train," said Cpl. Kyndle Johnson with Prince George's County Police.

The teen was taken to an area hospital with what police initially said appeared to be non-life threatening injuries. They later said the teen was in critical but stable condition.

The crash is still under investigation.

MARC service had been suspended in the area, delaying some commuters like Adam Hopkins by up to two hours.

"The train here, the one that I just got off of right now, it departs D.C. at 6:55 p.m. and because of the delays, it departed at 7:20 this evening," he said.

After the incident, police are now reminding people to use caution around train tracks.

"As always, we would tell anybody, no matter if its children, juveniles or adults: please stay off the tracks," Johnson said.
