Towson University President Kim Schatzel named next head of University of Louisville

BALTIMORE -- Dr. Kim Schatzel, president of Towson University, has been named the next president of the University of Louisville, the Baltimore County-based university said Wednesday. 

Dr. Schatzel assumes presidency of the Kentucky institution on Feb. 1. 

Towson University said it will now work with the University System of Maryland to begin a national search for the university's next head. 

"I am incredibly honored to be chosen to lead such a remarkable institution and look forward to working together with our campus and community partners to advance UofL's reputation as a pre-eminent institution nationally recognized for its excellence in research and scholarly work, education, inclusive student success, innovation, the arts and athletics – all aimed to establish the University of Louisville and the City of Louisville as a nexus for transformative solutions that advance the public good," Schatzel said in a statement.   

Dr. Schatzel, 66, was previously provost of Eastern Michigan University and dean of the College of Business at the University of Michigan-Dearborn.

Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski praised Schatzel in a stat

"Dr. Schatzel is a transformative and visionary leader who has helped usher in a new era of innovation at Towson University and has been a vital partner in the ongoing resurgence of the Towson community," Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski said in a statement. "On behalf of the residents of Baltimore County, we thank Dr. Schatzel for her years of devoted service to Towson's students, faculty, staff, alumni, and our entire community. While she will be greatly missed, we wish her nothing but the best in her next steps as the next President of the University of Louisville."
